Ghias aren't bought for performance, they're a sheep in wolfs clothing. Not meant to be fast, their styling demands that they be driven sedately just so that everyone can get a good look at them.
Somewhat surprisingly, there seems to be no definitive records of power and speeds for the Ghias, so I've collected as much data as I can from previous road tests and come up with these figures. They may not be 100%, but I think they give a good feel for the performance of the cars.

Though not over-quick, don't be disheartened as there are plenty of add-on performance goodies that were originally developed for the Beetle, but can be used on the identical mechanicals of the Ghias. Whether it's a mild performance tweak from a $400 kit with carbs and a less-asthmatic exhaust system, up to a 'stroker' 2.3-litre engine and above. Then if you really can't get enough there's superchargers, turbos and nitrous oxide...(see customization page)
